MANILA, Philippines — Philippine flags in all Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) campuses fly at half-staff to mourn the passing of former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

In photos shared by the university, Philippine flags in its campuses in Loyola Heights in Quezon City, Rockwell in Makati City, and in Pasig City are lowered to half-staff.

Aquino finished his elementary, high school, and college education at the Ateneo de Manila University.

One of his professors in college was his predecessor, former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Aquino died in his sleep on Thursday morning. His death certificate stated the cause of his death as renal disease secondary to diabetes. He was 61.

Aquino was the only son of Philippine democracy icons – the assassinated former Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. and former President Corazon Aquino. He is survived by his sisters Ballsy, Pinky, Viel, and Kris.

The urn containing his cremated remains was brought to the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City on Friday for public viewing.
