TUGUEGARAO CITY––Four people were injured Thursday when the jeepney carrying them smashed into a tree in Rizal town, Kalinga province, police said.
Staff Sgt. Henry Tuluan Jr., Rizal police investigator, said 20 passengers were on board the overloaded jeepney that was headed to a resort.
Tuluan said the jeepney had a broken tie rod, which caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve on an ascending road in Barangay Liwan West.
The police said the driver deliberately hit the tree to avoid falling into a ravine.
Three passengers, aged 10, 11, and 25, were brought to the town’s rural health unit for treatment.
Another passenger, a 56-year-old woman, was taken to the Juan Duyan Memorial District Hospital. INQ
