Suspect killed, cop hurt in Manila shootout

LUCENA CITY –– An alleged neighborhood toughie was killed in a gun battle with the police in San Pablo City Thursday, June 3, police said Friday.

A report from the San Pablo police identified the slain suspect as Ramil Magapi, a resident of Barangay San Jose.

Village officials described him as a “siga-siga” (neighborhood toughie) in the area, police said.

The report said Magapi was slain after he exchanged gun fire with the police in the village around 5:30 p.m.

Earlier, terrified neighbors reported to the police that Magapi was firing his handgun indiscriminately while holding a grenade.

The policemen who rushed to the area tried to convince Magapi to surrender, but they were fired upon instead.

A brief gun battle ensued that left Magapi dead.

The police reportedly recovered a caliber .45 pistol, a caliber .22 handgun, and a grenade from the slain suspect. INQ
