MANILA, Philippines — A day after posting a daily death toll of below 50, the Department of Health (DOH) has reported more than 100 fatalities due to COVID-19 again.

DOH said Wednesday that the latest casualties of the severe respiratory disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 number to 146, raising nationwide total deaths to 21,158 since the pandemic hit the Philippines last year.

Based on previous case bulletins of the health agency, there were 991 COVID-19 deaths reported from May 27 to June 2, which means an average of 141 fatalities.

Meanwhile, DOH data the week prior from May 20 to 26 – recorded the demise of 722 patients, which translates to an average of 103 deaths.

On Tuesday, DOH said 46 persons died from the serious respiratory ailment.

Deaths, however, represent only 1.71 percent of the total 1,240,716 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, according to DOH.
