COVID-19 infects 5,257 more; PH active cases now at 53,132
MANILA, Philippines — The country now has 53,132 active COVID-19 cases, the Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday, while 5,257 more people in the country were infected with the new coronavirus.
The current active infections represent 4.2 percent of all the 1,240,716 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country.
Of the confirmed cases, 94.1 percent or 1,167,426 have recovered, including the latest 6,266 patients who survived the disease.
There were also 146 new deaths, according to DOH’s Wednesday update, raising the tally of fatalities due to COVID-19 complications to 21,158, which is 1.71 percent of the total cases.
DOH also said that 12.8 percent of the 37,822 people tested for SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19, on May 31 were found positive for the new coronavirus.
Article continues after this advertisementAccording to the health agency, all laboratories were operational on May 31 but three laboratories were not able to submit their data, thus, excluded in the DOH’s June 2 report.
Citing data in the last 14 days, DOH noted that the three non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 0.13 percent of tested samples and 0.15 percent of COVID-19 positive individuals.
Meanwhile, DOH said eight duplicate entries, including six recoveries, were removed from the total case count, while 86 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
