Alleged kidnapper falls in Zamboanga City
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Zamboanga del Sur — An alleged kidnapper was arrested by a combined force of police and soldiers in Curuan village here on Monday (May 24).
Brigadier General Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Zamboanga Peninsula police director, identified the suspect as Abdulhalim Nasalon, 45, of Muti village, who is said to be a member of the Ajijul group which is affiliated with the Abu Sayyaf.
Nasalon’s arrest was based on a warrant issued by Zamboanga City Regional Trial Court Judge Ivy F. Damayo- Elva in December last year for kidnapping and serious illegal detention.
The court has not set bail for the temporary liberty of Nasalon who is presently under the custody of Zamboanga City Police Station 2.
Ylagan said Nasalon was allegedly involved in the April 25, 2009 kidnapping of Doroteo Gonzales, a farmer in Buenavista village who was brought to nearby Basilan Island and ransomed off for P25 million.
Gonzales was beheaded three weeks after the abduction after the ransom demand was not met.
