Jail guard among 9 new COVID-19 cases in Zambales

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales –– A guard in the provincial jail tested positive for COVID-19 Wednesday, May 19, the day after an inmate was confirmed to have contracted the virus.

Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial health director, said the 45-year-old jail guard from the capital town of Iba had no travel history outside the province.

He underwent a swab test after the infection in the facility since he could have been exposed to the inmate.

Bueno said the other new COVID-19 cases in the province had no travel history outside of the province.

All of them have existing ailments before they were confirmed to be positive for COVID-19.

Bueno said one patient had recovered.

To date, the province has 2,076 COVID-19 cases, with 172 active, 1,852 recoveries, and 51 deaths.
