TACLOBAN CITY— A couple who claimed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to policemen in Eastern Samar on Thursday, saying they want to live a normal life.

The couple, both in their 30s, surrendered before members of the 1st Eastern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company headed by Lt. Col. Sam Andarino at around 10 p.m. at their headquarters located in Barangay 15 (Lunang), Dolores town.

The couple said they belong to the sub-regional operation command of Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee operating in the different towns in Eastern Samar province.

The couple turned over a caliber 38 pistol with five live ammunition.

They said they were accused by the rebels of being traitors, prompting them to surrender and return to the folds of the law.
