More COVID-19 vaccines arrive in Cebu City

CEBU CITY –– Another batch of COVID-19 vaccines arrived in this city on Tuesday, May 11.

The Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7) received 132,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines and 29,250 doses from Pfizer-BioNTech.

Dr. Mary Jean Loreche,  DOH-7 spokesperson, said the newly arrived vaccines would be used mostly for those who would receive their second dose of the vaccine.

The more than 29,000 doses of vaccine from Pfizer, on the other hand, will only be used in Cebu’s highly urbanized city because of temperature requirements.

Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccines need to be stored at -70 degrees Celsius temperature.

Central Visayas had been allocated 396,210 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including those that arrived on Tuesday.

“We do not have any information yet on the next batch of vaccines. We will wait for the central office to inform us on the arrival of vaccines, and also for the allocation,” Loreche said.
