Traffic enforcers, street sweepers get 30-min break
MANILA, Philippines — Traffic enforcers and street sweepers under the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will be given a “heatstroke break” daily, as the heat index soars in Metro Manila during summer.
For every eight-hour shift, traffic aides and street sweepers will be allowed to take a 30-minute break.
“The said heatstroke break time shall be done alternately by those who are assigned in a particular area to maintain visibility of traffic enforcers and street sweepers and to ensure field operations are not hampered,” according to an MMDA memorandum. I
n case the heat index reaches 40 degrees Celsius and higher, traffic aides and sweet sweepers may take a break for another 15 minutes. The memorandum will be in effect until the end of May.
