DOH reports 7,733 new COVID-19 cases as recoveries top 1-M mark

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Friday an additional 7,733 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the nationwide active infections to 66,626.

According to DOH, active cases compose 6.1 percent of all the 1,087,885 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country recorded since the onset of the pandemic. Of the active cases, 96.3 percent are mild and asymptomatic.

Meanwhile, there are also 4,227 additional patients who have recovered, raising the number of recoveries to 1,003,160, or 92.2 percent of the total case count.

The DOH also reported an additional 108 fatalities, raising the death toll to 18,099, or 1.66 percent of the tally.

According to the health department, 14.1 percent of the 50,815 people who were tested were found positive for the virus.

Twenty duplicate entries, including 14 recoveries, were removed from the case count, while 64 cases initially tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on May 5, and were able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
