Robredo registers for national ID system

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo has registered herself on the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the PSA said Robredo completed Step 2 Registration, which involves going to registration centers and giving the registrant’s biometrics data, in Magarao, Camarines Sur.

Among the biometrics data captured in this process are fingerprints, iris scans, and front-facing photographs.

PSA said the Vice President completed the process in about 12 minutes “without technical difficulties after queuing with other local registrants.”

In January, President Rodrigo Duterte also registered himself on the national ID system. He received his national ID in March.

Step 2 Registration, PSA said, started in January and continued to roll out on a “gradual, small scale basis” in priority provinces.

As of April 30, about 6.3 million registrants have completed the Step 2 Registration.

The PhilSys portal for online Step 1 registration was launched on April 30 but encountered technical difficulties. The PSA, as well as National Economic Development Authority Secretary Karl Chua, apologized for it.

Step 1 Registration involves collecting demographic information and setting up appointments for Step 2 Registration.

The PSA said the final step of national ID registration will involve the issuance of the PhilSys Number (PSN) and the Philippine Identification (PhilID) card.

The agency said it has partnered with PHLPost for the delivery of the PSN and PhilID to successful registrants.
