MANILA, Philippines — About 2,100 residents of Parañaque City have received Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine during its launch of the vaccine on Tuesday, Mayor Edwin Olivarez said Wednesday.
Paranaque’s Sputnik V vaccination on Tuesday was held at a mall along Macapagal Boulevard.
Olivarez said that the number of medical frontliners and persons with comorbidities who received the Russian vaccine reached over 1,200, while senior citizens reached 800.
Vaccination will continue on Wednesday as the city government has yet to finish administering the 3,000 shots allocated to the city for the first dose.
Those who wish to get vaccinated must register online where they would get a text on when and what time they should proceed to the vaccination center, Olivarez said.
“Ang system natin diyan, lahat ng ating vina-vaccine naka-online register dapat. Doon sa online register makakatanggap sila ng text kung anong araw at anong oras sila pupunta doon,” he said in an interview over ABS CBN’s TeleRadyo.
(Our system is to vaccinate those who registered online. In their registration online, they would receive a text on when they should go to the vaccination center.)
During the Sputnik V vaccination on Tuesday, Olivarez said that not all those who went to the venue were able to receive the vaccine since supply is limited.
There were also people who did not register online and only walked in.
“Marami ang nag-walk-in pati raw ibang karatig na probinsya ay nagpunta doon para pumila. Inayos natin ‘yon,” he said.
(Many walked in. Even those from other provinces went there. We fixed that.)
Those who went to the vaccination center without registering online have been given cue numbers for their inoculation, he added.
So far, the city government has vaccinated 100% of its medical frontliners, or those under the A1 priority group, while it has inoculated 12,000 out of 33,000 of its persons with comorbidities, the mayor said.
Meanwhile, it has only vaccinated 15,000 out of 61,000 of its senior citizens.
Parañaque’s allocation of the Sputnik V vaccine came from the 15,000 doses that arrived in the country on May 1.
