PH logs 7,204 new COVID-19 cases; total active cases now 71,675
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported 7,204 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the total active infections in the country to 71,675.
According to a case bulletin from the DOH, the country has already recorded a total of 1,013,618 COVID-19 cases, including the 7.1 percent that are active cases. Of the active cases, 96.7 percent are mild and asymptomatic.
Meanwhile, there were also 10,109 new recoveries, raising the total number of patients who have survived the illness to 925,027. Recoveries represent 91.3 percent of the total case count.
However, an additional 63 patients have died, pushing the death toll to 16,916. Deaths account for 1.67 percent of the tally.
According to DOH, 15.8 percent of the 39,941 individuals who went through COVID-19 testing were found positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the disease.
The health department said 14 duplicate entries, including eight recoveries, were removed from the case count, while 26 cases that were earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
