Sorsogon starts forced evacuation of residents in high-risk areas

LEGAZPI CITY — The province of Sorsogon has ordered forced pre-emptive evacuation of residents prone to storm surge, flooding and landslide on Sunday morning.

Salvador Mendoza, information officer of the province, said at least 42 persons from the coastal areas were housed in evacuation centers in Sta. Magdalena town.

In Irosin town, at least 54 individuals were sheltered in private houses.

Mendoza said the 782 stranded passengers in Matnog Port and 16 in Pilar Port were also housed in the evacuation centers in nearby villages.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office installed a soup kitchen for the stranded passengers in the said ports.
