Taipei applauds Japan-US statement making Taiwan Strait issue focus of world
TAIPEI — The Taiwan government expressed its gratitude Saturday for the Japan-U.S. joint statement that emphasized the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
A statement issued by the government in Taipei said that Taiwan will do its utmost to deepen cooperation with countries close to its principles, such as Japan and the United States, and protect regional peace, stability, prosperity and development.
Taiwan’s statement said that cross-Strait issues have become the focus of the world beyond the framework of the relationship between China and Taiwan, and called on China to act responsibly.
Taipei also emphasized Taiwan’s consistent position that it will not bow to pressure and that, even with support, it will not make any reckless moves.
