110-bed modular hospital at QI for severe, critical COVID-19 cases to open today — Villar

Modular hospital at Quezon Institute for COVID-19 cases to open on April 6

MANILA, Philippines — The modular hospital that the government has set up at the Quezon Institute in Quezon City will be operational this Tuesday, Public Works Secretary and isolation czar Mark Villar said.

The facility has 110 rooms which will accommodate severe and critical cases of COVID-19.

“Upgraded version ito ng quarantine facility. Mayroon siyang high ceiling, mayroon siyang sariling oxygen supply para sa mga bedroom units. Kumpleto na po, fully functional,” he said in a Laging Handa public briefing on Tuesday.

Aside from the 110 rooms for COVID-19 patients, the facility also has living quarters for medical frontliners.

Villar said the government is focusing on setting up quarantine facilities in Metro Manila as the occupancy of hospital in the metropolis has reached 75% already due to the alarming COVID-19 surge.

He said the government is aiming to lower the occupancy rate to less than 60%.

By next month, the government is eyeing to extend the modular hospital by adding 88 beds in Quezon Institute.

Another 88 beds will also be added to the Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City.
