Ex-President Erap on mechanical ventilation as pneumonia ‘worsened,’ says son

MANILA, Philippines — Former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada’s pneumonia has “worsened” and is now on mechanical ventilation a week after he tested positive for COVID-19, his son, former Senator Jinggoy Estrada, said Tuesday.

The younger Estrada said his father’s doctors have placed him on mechanical ventilation “to improve oxygen delivery as well as to prevent the tiring of his respiratory mechanism.”

“Yesterday, my father’s condition suffered a setback as his pneumonia worsened,” the former senator said in a Facebook post.

“Because of this and the resulting increase in oxygen requirement, his doctors decided to place him on mechanical ventilation,” he added.

It was on Mar. 29 when Jinggoy announced that his father tested positive for COVID-19.

He asked the public for prayers for the former president’s immediate recovery.

“My father has always been a fighter and I hope that with the help of your prayers he will win this battle. [Please] continue praying for his immediate recovery,” he added.
