MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has continued its distribution of personal protective equipment (PPEs) through the Holy Week, as COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila and nearby provinces continues to surge.
Photos from OVP showed that PPEs have been brought to hospitals like the Fatima University Medical Center, Christ the King Medical Center Unihealth in Las Pinas, Pope John Paul II Hospital and Medical Center, Sta. Teresita General Hospital, and other healthcare institutions in Metro Manila.
Metro Manila is currently under an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) bubble with Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal due to rising COVID-19 cases. As of Thursday, the country’s active infection is at 138,948 after an additional 8,920 new cases.
“The office of Vice President Leni Robredo continues this week its increased distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) sets, reusable protective suits, and other medical supplies to various hospitals, local government units and other health facilities, as part of its support for those at the forefront in the fight against COVID-19,” OVP said in a statement.
According to OVP, the increase in PPEs donations and the recent Swab Cab initiative — where suspected infected COVID-19 patients are tested by a mobile facility — are parts of Vice President Leni Robredo’s project in response to the surge.
“This, aside from the Swab Cab initiative VP Leni’s office launched last Monday (March 29, 2021), initially in partnership with the local government of Malabon City, amidst the surge of COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila,” OVP said.

“The Swab Cab, done in partnership with Kaya Natin Movement and UBE Express, provides antigen testing in communities with high transmission rates to speed up the contact tracing and isolation of infected patients in the cities,” it added.
The PPEs are sourced from the donation of OVP’s private sector partners, which has helped Robredo and her office to contribute to the COVID-19 response since the pandemic reached the country’s shores, despite the OVP operating on a limited budget.
