The DOH said 20.4 percent of the 30,518 people who were tested yielded positive COVID-19 test results.

According to the health agency, active cases represent 16.8 percent of the case count, recoveries compose 81.4 percent, and deaths amount to 1.78 percent of the tally.

Of the active cases, 98.3 percent are mild and asymptomatic.

The DOH said nine duplicates, including five recoveries, were removed from the total case count. One case previously tagged as recovery was reclassified as death after final validation.

Nine laboratories were not able to submit their results to the COVID-19 Document Repository System on Monday.

The DOH and other health experts are recommending an extension of the enhanced community quarantine being imposed in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Bulacan, and Rizal beyond April 4 to better control the surge in cases.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire earlier warned that the country could see 430,000 active cases of COVID-19 nationwide, including 350,000 cases in Metro Manila alone, by the end of April if strict lockdowns will not be imposed.

The country has so far administered a total of 656,331 COVID-19 vaccine shots as of March 27.
