CA confirms AFP chief to highest military rank

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday approved the nomination of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Cirilito Sobejana to the highest military rank of four-star General.

The CA also approved the nomination of AFP-Human Rights Office Joel Alejandro Nacnac to the rank of Brigadier General, as well as the nominations and the ad interim appointments of 31 other senior officers of the military.

Before the CA’s plenary session, the body’s Committee on National Defense deliberated on and recommended the approval of the nominations and the ad interim appointments of the AFP officers.

  • Cirilito Sobejana to the rank of General
  • Erick Escarcha to the rank of Brigadier General
  • Edgardo Palma to the rank of Brigadier General
  • Joel Alejandro Nacnac to the rank of Brigadier General
  • Nestor Herico to the rank of Major General
  • Dorvin Jose Legaspi to the rank of Rear Admiral
  • Philip Lapinid to the rank of Brigadier General

Ad interim appointments

  • Ferdinand Cartujano to the rank of Lieutenant General
  • Nestor Florente Rayos to the rank of Major General
  • Romeo Brawner Jr. to the rank of Major General
  • Donn Anthony Miraflor to the rank of Commodore
