MANILA, Philippines — There have been 277 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases among the members and personnel of the House of Representatives since the pandemic started last year, Secretary General Mark Llandro Mendoza disclosed Tuesday.
Mendoza said that of the 277 infections, 43 remain active, 227 have recovered, and seven have succumbed to the disease.
The most recent cases of COVID-19 among lawmakers include Majority Leader Martin Romualdez and Negros Oriental Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong.
Anakalusugan Rep. Mike Defensor also disclosed earlier that he contracted the disease.
The House suspended its work operations until Wednesday, March 24, due to the “alarming” rise of COVID-19 cases particularly in Metro Manila.
Plenary sessions will resume on Thursday, March 25, at 9 a.m. but scheduled online hearings will continue, said Mendoza.
