MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government has suspended the operation of several businesses in general community quarantine (GCQ) areas until April 4, Malacañang announced Friday, citing the surge in COVID-19 cases.

In an online briefing, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the operation of the following businesses will be suspended:

    • driving schools
    • traditional cinemas
    • videos and interactive game arcades
    • libraries
    • archives
    • museums and cultural events
    • limited social events
    • DOT-accredited establishments except [for] open-air tourist attractions

Meanwhile, the capacity for dine-in restaurants, cafes and personal care services was reduced to a maximum of 50 percent from the previous 75 percent.

Cockfighting activities were also suspended in both GCQ and modified GCQ areas until April 4.

The government issued these measures after it shunned shifting to stricter quarantine status, citing the need to balance health and economy.
