A woman who was reported missing almost three weeks ago was found dead in the trunk of her own car — and her ex-boyfriend was charged in connection with her disappearance.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office said that Melinda Kay Davis’ body was discovered in the trunk of her vehicle which was parked near the Columbus area of Cleveland, Ohio, CBS affiliate Cleveland 19 said in a report on March 15.
Davis was last seen by her family when she told them on Feb. 25 that she will be going to her ex-boyfriend John Henry Mack Jr.’s apartment. They did not hear from her since.
During the investigation, Mack told police that his ex-girlfriend’s “body will never be found,” which led them to believe he was connected to Davis’ disappearance, said United States Marshals Service agent Pete Elliott.
Authorities conducted a search on Mack’s home, where they found evidence of blood on Feb. 26. An arrest warrant for a kidnapping charge was issued to Mack and he was taken into custody on March 4.
Days later, the police received a tip about a car that looked like the one Davis was last seen to be driving, a black car with the same license plate as hers.
The vehicle was inspected and police found the woman’s body in the trunk, as confirmed by the sheriff’s office in the report. The search for Davis’ body lasted for 18 days and the woman’s cause of death is still unknown.
Mack pleaded not guilty when he faced the Mansfield Municipal Court for his kidnapping charge. He has not yet been charged for Davis’ murder but is being held on a $1 million bond. Dana Cruz/JB
