CLARK FREEPORT – Smuggled mobile phones worth P22.8 million were seized last week after customs officials discovered the contraband among 88 cargo boxes that were declared as computer items, the Clark Development Corp. (CDC) said in a report on Saturday.

The contraband was consigned to Omega Six Global Corp. in Iloilo City.

The Bureau of Customs operating in the Port of Clark (BOC-Clark) found 3,520 pieces of the Realme C15 smartphones in the boxes its team had inspected on March 5. Lawyer Ruby Claudia Alameda, BOC-Clark district collector, issued a warrant of seizure and detention for these items.

Alameda said the smuggled items cost the government P2.8 million in foregone taxes. TONETTE OREJAS
