The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the national government had so far built 19 percent of the proposed 522.73-kilometer bike lane network in Metro Manila, Metro Cebu and Metro Davao, as of March.

In a webinar sponsored by the Makati Business Club on Friday, Steve Pastor, assistant DOTr secretary, said the DOTr and its partner agency, the Department of Public Works and Highways, were able to build 99 kilometers of bike lanes.

In Metro Manila, Pastor reported that 54.47 km of bike lanes with pavement markings were built out of the proposed 338.53-km bike lane network.

In Metro Cebu, 23.8 percent of the 140.69-km bike lane network, and 10.57 percent of 43.51 km of proposed bike lanes in Metro Davao have been built.

He added that the bike lanes would be connected to major public transport, such as rail stations, intermodal terminals and bus stops, to promote interconnectivity. —Mariejo S. Ramos
