21 held for illegal fishing in Bulacan

CAMP GEN. ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan –– Twenty-one fishermen from Paombong, Obando, and Bulakan towns were arrested for illegal fishing on Tuesday, Feb. 16, the police said.

Col. Lawrence Cajipe, Bulacan police director, said the first batch of the fishermen from the coastal barangay of Binuangan in Obando was found fishing around 10 a.m. in the waters of Barangay Sta. Cruz, Paombong using motorized net or trawl, which are prohibited.

Seized from them were seven fish tubs containing 18 kilos of “Dulong” worth P14,000.

At 10:45 p.m. on the same day, another group of fishermen, all from Hagonoy town. were arrested for using prohibited mesh nets in Barangay Salambao, also in Obando. Seized from them were 40 kilos of “kabasi” worth P2,000.

Earlier at 3:30 a.m. that day, nine more fishermen on board four motorized boats were caught fishing in a mangrove and marine protected area in Bulakan.
