MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) is seeing an increase in Covid-19 cases in eight cities in Metro Manila, particularly in the cities of Valenzuela, Pasay, Malabon, Pasig, Makati, Navotas, Las Piñas, and Manila.
Dr. Alethea de Guzman, medical specialist at the DOH Epidemiology Bureau, however, said that the increase in the number of cases is not as significant as the spike in cases being reported in the past.
“Sa ngayon nakalista dito ‘yung walong syudad na nakakakita tayo ng pagtaas ng kaso. Hindi na kasing laki ng pagtaas noong mga nakaraang linggo subalit nakikita pa rin natin na tumataas ang mga kaso,” she said in an online media forum on Tuesday as she presented the list of eight cities in the capital region with increasing Covid-19 cases.
(Right now, we have listed eight cities wherein we saw an increase in cases. The increase is not as high as the previous weeks but we saw there is still an increase.)
She added that the DOH still sees Metro Manila as the “driver of infection” in the country.
But despite the increasing number of coronavirus cases in select cities, de Guzman noted that the healthcare utilization rate in Metro Manila remains at the safe zone.
As of Monday, Metro Manila has already recorded a total of 227,359 Covid-19 cases, which consist of 7,085 active cases, 215,696 recoveries, and 4,578 deaths.
Of the active cases in the region, 384 new cases were added by the DOH to the tally on Monday.
Nationwide, a total of 550,860 Covid-19 have been recorded by the health agency. Of this number, 27,588 are active, 511,755 are recoveries, and 11,517 are deaths.
