In an online media forum earlier in the day, Dr. Alethea de Guzman, medical specialist at the DOH Epidemiology Bureau, said that there has been a slight decrease in the national growth rate of Covid-19 cases.

However, she noted that there has been a continuous increase in cases of infection in Cagayan Valley, Central Visayas, Soccsksargen and Caraga, but at a slower rate.

She said that except for the four regions, “a plateau or a downward trend were observed” for the rest of the country.

A total of 107 million people have had Covid-19 globally since the start of the pandemic, according to data from the Johns Hopkins University. Of those, 2.3 million have died and 60 million have recovered, which leaves almost 50 million active cases worldwide.
