Duterte says public schools may be used as vaccination sites in cities

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte wants to use public school buildings as vaccination centers in urban areas if venues such as gyms and coliseums would not be available.

In a pre-recorded talk aired late Monday night, Duterte said utilizing public school buildings should be the last resort if other venues are not available seeing no “objectionable thing” in doing so since there are no face-to-face classes yet.

“Kung kulang talaga [ang venue], my order is to utilize the public schools, wala pa namang klase,” he said.

(If venues are lacking, my order is to utilize the public schools since there are no face-to-face classes yet.)

“If there is no malaking coliseum o gym then we will utilize the schools. Kung maaari lang, ‘wag muna, but I do not see any objectionable thing there,” Duterte added.

(If there are no big coliseums or gyms then we will utilize the schools. Not right away but not see any objectionable thing there.)

Duterte earlier said he wants to use police stations and military installations as vaccination sites in rural areas.

“In far flung areas, if there is no suitable venue then the military camps would suffice,” he said.
