Ex-cop on most wanted list captured in Negros Oriental

MANILA, Philippines—A former policeman tagged as one of the country’s most wanted persons has been arrested in the province of Negros Oriental on Sunday (Feb. 7), according to police.

Anecio Lapara Jr., was captured in a police operation at the village of 1 Poblacion in La Carlota City, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said in a statement on Monday (Feb. 8).

The former policeman is facing three cases of robbery and illegal possession of firearms. He bolted jail in Ormoc City while awaiting trial, police said.

The PNP said he was a member of Philippine Constabulary Class 88 and was absorbed into the PNP in 1991. He left the service in 1999 and allegedly led a criminal gang operating in Central and Eastern Visayas.
