Senatorial candidate Chavit Singson graced the Caroline Cares Cup opening ceremonies

In the picturesque province of Kalinga Apayao, Senatorial candidate Luis “Chavit” Singson added star power to the Caroline Cares Cup opening ceremonies.

Invited by Congressman Sonny Mangaoang and warmly welcomed by his wife Dra. Caroline Mangaoang, Singson’s visit wasn’t just about basketball or volleyball; it was a slam dunk for his vision of a better Philippines.

The crowd gathered to celebrate both the tournament and the promise of progress, with Mangaoang applauding Singson’s innovative initiatives.

Topping the list was the Jeepney Modernization Program, a lifeline for hardworking drivers. Under this plan, e-jeepneys are offered with no collateral, no down payment, and no interest, making modern transportation accessible to those who need it most.

Singson’s Banko ng Masa project also struck a chord. With 77% of Filipinos without bank accounts and 95% lacking credit cards, this initiative aims to bring financial inclusion to every corner of the country. The idea of bridging such a huge gap resonated deeply with the audience, many of whom saw it as a game-changer.

But the real crowd-pleaser was Singson’s proposed “Chavit 500,” a Universal Basic Income program offering ₱500 monthly to Filipinos earning minimum wage and below, starting at age 18.

“This will bring much-needed relief to families in our province,” Congressman Mangaoang said in Filipino, highlighting its potential to ease financial burdens in Kalinga Apayao.

Singson was very much at home with the Ilocano crowd, cracking jokes and encouraging the athletes like a proud kababayan.

Dr. Mangaoang summed it up best: “Masayang-masaya ako at sinuportahan niya ang Caroline Cares Cup.”

(I am so happy he supported Caroline Cares Cup).

Singson’s visit felt like a winning play for everyone in attendance. Whether it was his projects or his easy charisma, Kalinga Apayao left the day feeling hopeful, and maybe a little inspired by the promise of what’s to come.
