A maskless couple who fake coughed on gym equipment and on other people in Vancouver, Canada, will be paying a CA$460 (around $360 or P17,500) fine.

The 60-year-old man and his 25-year-old girlfriend, whose names were withheld, will pay CA$230 each after the gym owner reported them to authorities, as per Vancouver police release on Jan. 19.

The owner, whose name was also withheld, reported the two to the police because they were not wearing face coverings and coughed “in the general direction of people and equipment.”

The two, who also turned out to be not members of the gym, explained to officers that they only pretended to have a fake coughing fit because people inside the gym kept staring at them.

Authorities then asked them to leave the establishment and issued them the tickets for violating the Emergency Program Act by not wearing face masks amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the police.  /ra
