In an apparently cruel prank, a group of teenagers in England, United Kingdom, pretended to give passersby free “hand sanitizer,” which was actually superglue.

Local resident Kathy Smith, who almost fell for the prank, said the boys were offering people free squirts of superglue placed inside hand sanitizer bottles outside a supermarket, as per Yorkshire Live on Jan. 19.

The prank occurred amid the COVID-19 pandemic when the frequent use of sanitary products such as alcohol and hand sanitizers has been necessary to prevent the spread of the virus.

“The lad approached me showing me the bottle of ‘sanitizer’ asking if I would like a free pump. He was eagerly waiting for me to hold my hand out with a massive smile on his face,” Smith was quoted as saying.

“They all started to laugh. I asked, ‘What’s in the bottle?’ He said ‘sanitizer’ while laughing,” she added.

As Smith did not hold out her hand after some of the boys started laughing, one of them told her that it was “f*cking superglue,” to which she replied, “I’ll pass, thanks.”

She shared, however, that she believed the boy would have squirted superglue onto her hands had she held them out to them.

Smith also noted that if she fell for the trap, she would have spent her night at the local infirmary to get superglue off her hands. Ian Biong /ra
