ORMOC CITY—A fish vendor in Leyte was killed in an alleged gunfight with policemen during a drug buy-bust operation in Maasin City on Thursday (Jan. 14).

Lt. Maja Beringuel identified the slain fish vendor as Rocky Bontog, 44, allegedly a high-value target in the anti-drug campaign.

Police said Bontog opened fire at operatives after he learned he was selling drugs to an undercover agent.

Bontog was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival there.

Police said Bontog had surrendered during the early days of Oplan Tokhang in 2016 but had returned to the drug trade.
