Visayas, Mindanao to see rains due to LPA, tail end of cold front
MANILA, Philippines — Areas in Visayas and Mindanao can expect light and scattered rains from Monday night to Tuesday due to a low pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Mindanao, and the tail end of a frontal system.
Weather reports from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Monday afternoon showed that the LPA was last seen 240 kilometers east southeast of General Santos City.
Meanwhile, the tail end of a cold front still affects the eastern part of Visayas and the northern portion of Mindanao.
“Dahil dito sa low pressure area at sa tail end ng cold front, asahan po natin na kalat-kalat ang mga pag-ulan at pagkidlat, pagkulog ngayong gabi dito sa buong Visayas at Mindanao,” senior weather specialist Chris Perez said.
(Because of the low pressure area and the tail end of a cold front, we can expect scattered rains, lightning and thunderstorms on Monday night over the whole Visayas and Mindanao.)
“Pinapayuhan ‘yong mga kababayan natin lalo na dito sa Eastern Visayas area, Caraga at Davao Region at maging dito sa may bandang Sorsogon area na maging alerto sa mga posibleng pagbaha at pagguho ng lupa,” he added.
(We are advising people in the Eastern Visayas area, those in Caraga and Davao Region plus people living in Sorsogon to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides.)
Pagasa said the LPA is expected to dissipate in the next 24 hours, adding that it does not expect any tropical cyclone to form inside the Philippine area of responsibility.
For the northern parts of the country and other areas in Luzon, the northeast monsoon or amihan would still bring cold weather and light rains especially in Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Southern Luzon and in Bicol Region.
Cold weather is still expected due to the amihan, as temperatures in Metro Manila plummet to just 22 to 29 degrees Celsius, Laoag with 19 to 28 degrees, Tuguegarao at 19 to 26 degrees, Baguio with just 10 to 21 degrees, and Tagaytay with 19 to 27 degrees.
Similar conditions may be felt in Visayas and Mindanao still because of the LPA and the cold front, as temperatures range from 24 to 29 degrees Celsius in Iloilo, Cebu, and Davao, 24 to 28 degrees in Tacloban, 24 to 32 degrees in Zamboanga, and 24 to 30 degrees in Cagayan de Oro.
Gale warnings are still in place over the entire northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon, down to the northern and eastern waters of Eastern Visayas, and the waters west of Ilocos Region and Palawan.
Above-mentioned waters would experience rough to very rough sea conditions, which means fisherfolk using small boats are advised against setting sail in these areas.
