Animal-welfare volunteers from Capiz province found a friendly way to deal with and give love to stray animals on Christmas Day.
Hyacinth Lumagbas, a 34-year-old first-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student from Capiz State University – Dumarao Campus, together with her friends and other volunteers, fed stray dogs and cats in different parts of their province.
“Animals are known to recognize love in any form, so the good you do to a stray animal will never go [to] waste. Let us share our blessings by providing them [with] one of the best gifts a stray dog or cat can receive, a clean and decent meal,” Lumagbas wrote in her Facebook post on Wednesday, December 30.

“Let us make them feel that Christmas is not just for ‘hoomans’ but for all ‘kinds’,” she added.
Meanwhile, in an interview with INQUIRER.net, Lumagbas said they were able to distribute foods to strays particularly in the municipalities of Pilar and President Roxas, as well as in some barangays in Roxas City, such as Baybay, Culasi, Dayao and Tisa.
Serving stray animals has been a yearly tradition for Lumagbas and her friends as this initiative started in 2017, and is continuing amid the pandemic.
According to Lumagbas, in 2020 they were able to feed hundreds of street dogs and cats as they conducted stray feeding on a weekly basis. From time to time, she also finds ways to go out and feed stray animals whenever possible.
Recently, Lumagbas and her group were able to provide enough food for the stray animals through the cash and in-kind donations that they had received from compassionate individuals who extended their help to support their group’s advocacy. The in-kind donations that they usually receive are mostly canned goods, rice, hotdogs and dog foods.
Whenever she feeds animals roaming on the streets, “it gives me a sense of peace and unexplained happiness that money can never buy,” Lumagbas further told INQUIRER.net, quoting the Greek fabulist and storyteller Aesop’s famous saying, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” /ra
