Duterte hits Zarate anew: You are a ‘hypocrite, a chauvinist pig’
MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday called Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate a “hypocrite and a chauvinist pig” after questioning the lawmaker’s funding for his son’s alleged education in Europe.
During his weekly message to the nation, Duterte wondered if Zarate was using money collected from communist rebel groups to pay for his son’s supposed education fees in Europe.
“I’d like to call the attention of Carlos Isagani Zarate, the congressman. May anak ka na nag-aaral sa Europe. And sinasabi mo na si Xandro na anak mo ginagastusan ng lola. You know, sabi mo talaga maloloko mo talaga ang Filipino. […] Ang lola mo tinignan namin ang ano, matanda na […] wala namang income. Paano makagastos?” Duterte said.
(He has a son studying in Europe. You said the education of Xandro, your son, is being funded by her grandmother. You know, you will really fool the Filipinos. The grandmother is already old, she has no income. How can she spend money?)
“He has been flying over Europe, Zarate. Kung ang sweldo mo Zarate iyan ang ginagastos mo para sa anak mo, pinapasa mo sa nanay mo na matanda na, you are pulling everybody’s leg. Huwag mo kaming bolahin. Baka kaya ginagastos mong pera iyong kinokolekta ng NPA (New People’s Army) dito?,” Duterte further said.
(If your salary that you are spending for your child, and you are just asking from your mom who is already old, you are pulling everybody’s leg. Don’t fool us. Maybe you are using money collected from NPA?)
Duterte then challenged Zarate to face him, even offering bodyguard services of his staunch critic, former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
“You have an incongruity sa ideology mo. Kunyari galit ka [Zarate] sa mayayaman. […] Itong si Zarate walang pera, itong si Zarate nagpapapaaral sa anak niya ang perang ginagamit. (You pretend that you hate the rich. Zarate has no money, Zarate is using money to fund his child’s education in Europe.),” said Duterte.
“Kaya ikaw Zarate, you are a hypocrite, you are.. may sakit ka. You are on top of it all. You are a chauvinist pig. Gusto mo kumausap sa akin? Tayong dalawa lang. Gusto kitang kausapin. tawagin mo si Bong [Go]. Gusto mo ako akyat sa bahay ninyo? Saan? Dito sa Manila o saan ka ba nakatira? Mag-usap tayo. Huwag na ‘yang NPA, NPA, komunista, komunista. Lalaki sa lalaki, gusto kita makausap,” Duterte added.
(Zarate you are a hypocrite, you are sick. You are on top of it all. You are a chauvinist pig. You want to talk? Let’s do it just the two of us. I want to talk to you, call Bong Go. Do you want me to go to your house? Here in Manila, where do you live? Set aside NPA, NPA and communists. Let’s talk man to man.)
“Kung gusto mo bodyguard sama mo na si Trillanes. Sige ako na magisa, dalawa kayo. Totoo yan. Paalamin niyo media kung saan. Hindi ako magsama, I will order my security people to go away. Bastos ka [Zarate], may ginawa kang bastos ka,” he further said.
(If you want a bodyguard, call Trillanes. I’ll be on my own, you two meet me. Tell the media where we will talk. I will order my security people to go away. You did something unpleasant.)
In his previous public speech, Duterte called Zarate a “dog shit.” He also previously accused left-wing groups as legal fronts of communist rebels.
