Man rescued after snowstorm left him stranded in car for over 10 hours
A man from Tioga County, New York, in the United States was rescued by New York State Police after being stranded in his car for more than 10 hours due to an overnight snowstorm.
Kevin Kresen, 58, was suffering from hypothermia and frostbite when he was discovered by Zone Sergeant Jason Cawley of Troop C, according to a press release by the New York State Police Newsroom on Thursday, Dec. 17. His car had no heating due to a broken serpentine belt.
Cawley had contacted Tioga County 911 in the morning of Dec. 17 to check if there were any pending emergency calls due to the snowstorm.
He was informed that the county had received multiple 911 calls from a man who needed assistance on the road, but could not be located by law enforcement. This prompted him to drive to Owego town to patrol the area, but he also could not locate Kresen.
“While driving, Z/Sgt Cawley saw what appeared to be a row of mailboxes and waded through the snow to check the addresses,” the police said. “While digging, he hit the windshield of a car. Inside the car was the driver who had been making 911 [calls]…”
