MANILA, Philippines — Different weather systems affecting the country are being monitored by state meteorologists as a huge part of Northern Luzon would still experience colder weather due to the intensifying northeast monsoon.
According to the weather reports on Tuesday afternoon from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the northeast monsoon or amihan and the tail end of a frontal system can cause cloudy skies and rains over Northern Luzon for Wednesday.
As a result, light to moderate rains will prevail over the eastern side of Luzon like Cagayan Valley, parts of Central Luzon from Tuesday night to Wednesday. The western side including Ilocos Region may also see light rains this time due to the amihan.
On the other hand, Southern Luzon and parts of Visayas may see warmer weather due to the easterlies, and then experience rains by afternoon and night.
Due to these factors, temperatures in Tuguegarao may go down further to just 23 to 27 degrees Celsius, Baguio with 15 to 24 degrees, Tagayay at 21 to 29 degrees, while Laoag, Metro Manila, and Legazpi would see something around 23 to 31 degrees.
Weather in Visayas and Mindanao would be fair, as the temperature in Cebu and Tacloban plays around 25 to 32 degrees Celsius, 25 to 33 degrees in Zamboanga, and slightly hotter in Davao with 24 to 33 degrees.
Pagasa is also watching over a cloud cluster outside the Philippine area of responsibility, which may be the cause for earlier predictions of a low pressure area (LPA) by Thursday or Friday. The LPA is expected to cause rains in Visayas and Mindanao over the weekend, as it crosses towards the West Philippine Sea.
Another cloud cluster was also seen south of Palawan, but the state weather bureau does not expect it to develop as an LPA. Still, it may bring strong winds and rains in waters near Palawan.
Meanwhile, Pagasa placed more areas under a gale warning, which now includes the whole northern coast of Luzon including Batanes and Babuyan Islands, the eastern waters of Cagayan, and the whole seaboard of Ilocos Region.
Fisherfolk are advised not to set sail in these areas as waves may reach heights of 2.8 meters to 4.5 meters.
