3 kids drown in Taguig manhole

MANILA, Philippines — Three boys, aged between six and eight, died after they fell and drowned in a manhole in Taguig City on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Taguig police reported that the incident took place around 12:40 p.m. Thursday when the boys fell into the manhole near where they were playing along Anchor Street in Barangay Western Bicutan.

“Naglalaro sila (victims) doon at sinasabi na sila ay nagtutulakan at naghihilahan,” Taguig police chief Colonel Celso Rodriguez told INQUIRER.net in a text message.

Police said Safety Marshals and Barangay Western Bicutan Rescue Team tried to rescue the children by pulling them out of the manhole, which has a depth of more than two meters.

The minors were rushed to the nearest hospital, where they were pronounced dead at 1 p.m.
