NNC launches ‘Tutok Kainan’ supplementation program to prevent stunting

MANILA, Philippines — The National Nutrition Council (NNC) held on Monday a soft launch of the “Tutok Kainan” Supplementation Program that aims to help prevent stunting among children up to 23 months old.

According to NNC, the program seeks to improve the quality and quantity of food and nutrition intake, as well as utilization of Early Childhood Care and Development – First 1,000 Days Program (EECD F1KD) services among “nutritionally at-risk” pregnant women and children aged six to 23 months old in select areas.

The soft launch was held online and was live-streamed through the Facebook page of NNC.

During the event, NNC executive director Azucena Dayanghirang said government efforts to prevent malnutrition would help achieve “human development” in the country.

“Sa pamamagitan ng Tutok Kainan at iba pang programa ng Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition, mga programa ng Inter-Agency Task Force on Zero Hunger, ating Philippine Development Plan, magtulong-tulong tayong lahat para maiahon ang Pilipinas sa malnutrition para makamit natin ang totoong human development ng ating bansa,” she said.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles who was also present at the soft launching, said the program is the answer to the “gap” in the country’s supplementation program.

“It is very important that today we launch this program because this is the program that will start it all,” he said.

“This is the program that will show to the people of the Philippines and the world that we are very serious in implementing the National Food Policy and really making sure that we implement correctly the goals and objectives enshrined in the First 1,000 Days Law,” he added. [ac]
