MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Monday issued a work stoppage order on the Skyway Extension Project to pave the way for an investigation into the accident in Muntinlupa City last Saturday.

In an online press briefing, DOLE spokesperson Rolly Francia said the NCR regional director issued an order to the contractor and subcontractors of the Skyway extension project.

“To address the problem, the Regional Director of the National Capital Region Atty. Sarah Mirasol issued an order suspending the work in the construction site of the Skyway project. She directed the contractor, EEI corporation, and its subcontractors to stop the project,” said Francia

“The work stoppage order covers the entire stretch of the construction project,” he added.

The order was issued due to an accident which killed one person and injured four more individuals.

The suspension, according to Francia, will last until lifted by the regional office.

“Ang pagpapahinto po ng construction ay para magbigay daan sa investigation at upang malaman kung may violation na nacommit sa constuction site. To determine din if may paglabag ba sa occupational safety and health standards,” the spokesperson said.

The Skyway contractor and sub contractors were called to a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the incident.
