Manila City barangays to get P100K cash if no new COVID-19 case for a month

MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Manila will give a P100,000 cash incentive to barangays that will not have any new COVID-19 infection from December 1, 2020, to January 31, 2021.

Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” has signed Executive Order No. 45, providing for the cash incentive as well as the mechanics for the campaign which the local government deems “proven to be effective.”

Moreno said the city “finds it imperative to motivate its barangays in its fight by providing them with incentives which can also serve as assistance in maximizing their efforts.”

“While the city already achieved several milestones in its fight against COVID-19, the city, nonetheless, admits that more is needed to be done,” Domagoso said in his Executive Order No. 45.

“In the next two months, starting December 1, 2020, and ending on January 31, 2021, kapag wala pong nairehistro na infection, walang new case sa barangay ninyo, magkakamit ang inyong barangay ng P100,000 incentive,” the Manila City mayor said.

In addition, barangays that already achieved COVID-free status from September to October will be given P100,000 more or a total incentive of P200,000.

The city government earlier gave 73 barangays P100,000 as a reward for being COVID-19 free from September 1 to October 31.

Under the same executive order, Moreno said the Manila Health Department (MHD) and Manila Barangay Bureau (MBB) “shall collaborate in overseeing the implementation” and “shall submit reports to the Office of the Mayor.”

All COVID-19 data will be verified by MHD, which is tasked to verify all barangays that recorded zero COVID-19 infection for two months.

The mayor’s directive will be forwarded to the Manila City Council to determine the source of the fund for the incentive. The City Budget Officer is likewise ordered to coordinate with the city council.

“Bibigyan din po namin kayo ng certification ng pagkilala sa bawat opisyal ng barangay, from the chairmen to secretary, treasurer, to recognize the effort,” Moreno said.
