Landslide closes road in Albay town

LEGAZPI CITY — A national road was closed to traffic due to a landslide caused by Typhoon “Ulysses” in the town of Sto. Domingo in Albay on Wednesday morning.

Mayor Joseling Aguas Jr. said soil and rocks loosened by the incessant rain spawned by the typhoon cascaded down the road in Zone Suhoton in Barangay Calayucay.

The landslide rendered impassable the roads to the coastal villages of Salvacion, Buhatan, and Alimsog, and to Cagraray Island.

Edgar Balidoy, head of the municipal disaster risk reduction and management office, said the heavy rainfall brought by Supertyphoon “Rolly” on Nov. 1 also triggered the soil erosion.

No residents are living near the landslide area, he added.
