MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-year-old Marvin Ferreras had stabbed to death a minor after a fight over his ex-girlfriend.

On Monday, no less than his mother surrendered him to authorities.

According to San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, Ferreras is accused of stabbing 17-year-old John Clarence Buena around midnight on November 2 in Barangay West Crame.

The victim sustained two stab wounds in his back and died after two days of confinement at the East Avenue Medical Center.

“A few days after the incident, the suspect’s mother reached out to Vice Mayor Warren Villa. The mother wanted the Vice Mayor to ask Mayor Zamora to take her son into custody and assure his safety when turned over to the police,” a statement from the San Juan City government read.

“The mother cited the mayor’s success in defusing the hostage-taking incident at the Greenhills Mall by assuring then suspect Alchie Paray’s safety as her reason for requesting the mayor’s involvement,” the city government added.

The mayor assured the mother that no harm will come to her son after coordinating with San Juan City police chief Col. Jaime Santos.

Zamora then requested Villa and Santos to fetch the suspect and his mother at an agreed location for the turnover. The mayor then formally turned over the suspect to the San Juan City police on Monday afternoon. Miggy Dumlao, trainee
