A pet dog accidentally caused a handgun to go off and shoot his owner in the thigh, a police department in Texas in the United States reported.

The animal’s paw got lodged in the trigger of a pistol, which was tucked in its owner’s waistband at the time, the Plano Police Department disclosed on Facebook on Nov. 3.

“Accidents Happen! Imagine having your pistol tucked inside your waistband and while picking up your dog, a paw gets lodged in the trigger and fires the weapon, sending a bullet into and through your thigh. Well, that happened here in Plano,” the department’s Facebook page posted.

The police department did not disclose the owner’s identity but listed some advice on gun safety.

One of the tips is to always assume and treat a weapon as loaded, while another is that a gun owner must always make sure that the holster is safe and protect the trigger from firing accidentally. NVG
