Typhoon Rolly update: Evacuation of vulnerable Camarines residents in full swing

LEGAZPI CITY — The provincial government of Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte are conducting pre-emptive and forced evacuation of residents as Typhoon Rolly roars toward the Bicol region.

In Camarines Sur, local officials have started the forced evacuation of residents living in areas prone to storm surge, landslides, and floods in all towns.

Estel Estropia, spokesperson of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said the evacuation of 20,000 families is expected before Saturday noon.

Lawyer Don Culvera, the unified incident commander of Camarines Norte, said based on the initial report, at least 1,329 families or 6,645 individuals from 75 villages in Vinzons, Mercedes, San Vicente and Daet.have been moved since Friday to 53 evacuation centers.

At least 35,000 families or 159,000 individuals will be evacuated in the province, Culvera said.

In its 8 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal number 2 is up  over Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon and Burias Island in Masbate.
