Rain showers, cloudy skies due in Bicol, Samar provinces due to LPA — Pagasa
MANILA, Philippines — The Bicol region and Samar provinces are expected to have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms on Thursday due to the trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
The LPA was last spotted 965 kilometers east of Southern Luzon, Pagasa said in its 4 a.m. update.
“Batay sa ating analysis ay maliit ang tsansa na magdevelop ito into a tropical depression. Posible itong kumilos pakanluran at lalapit sa eastern section ng southern Luzon at Visayas,” Pagasa weather specialist Shiela Reyes said.
(Based on our analysis, this LPA has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression. It may move west and will move near the eastern section of Southern Luzon and Visayas.)
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and localized thunderstorms.
According to Pagasa, the LPA is embedded along the ITCZ that is currently affecting the weather in Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The ITCZ is where winds coming from the northern and southern hemisphere converge, bringing clouds that cause rains in affected areas.
Reyes said there is a higher chance of isolated rain showers developing in Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao due to the ITCZ.
