LPA spotted east of PH but won’t develop into tropical depression – Pagasa

/ 06:53 PM September 09, 2020

MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) was spotted east of the country, but state meteorologists from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) do not expect it to intensify into a storm.

Pagasa’s 5:00 p.m. weather updates showed that the LPA was last seen 895 kilometers east of Southern Luzon.  According to the wind spectral model that the state weather bureau uses, the low-pressure area may dissipate once it nears Luzon’s eastern landmass.

As of now, the LPA still has no direct effect on the country’s weather systems.

“Pinapakita na ‘yong hangin na dala ng nabanggit nating low pressure area or ‘yong sirkulasyon generally associated with the [LPA] ay kikilos kanluran — may kabagalan — hanggang ngayon darating na weekend dito sa silangang bahagi ng Luzon,” senior weather specialist Chris Perez said.

(The wind map shows that the wind from the low-pressure area or the circulation associated with it is moving west, quite slow, as it would reach the eastern part of Luzon by the weekend.)

“Posible ngang tuluyan nang ma-disorganize habang papalapit, parating ‘yong Linggo dito sa may bandang eastern side ng Central and Southern Luzon.  Pinakikita nito na maliit ang tsansang maging bagyo ng naturang low pressure area subalit patuloy nga tayong magmomonitor,” he added.

(But it may be disorganized as it nears the landmass, and that is expected to happen by Sunday when it nears the eastern side of Central and Southern Luzon.  This shows that there is a small chance that the low-pressure area develops into a storm, but we would continue monitoring.)

Cloudy skies and rains are seen to persist over Bicol Region and Southern Luzon on Thursday, while the rest of Luzon can expect a continuation of the warm and humid weather with occasional rain showers.

Temperatures in Metro Manila will play between 26 to 33 degrees Celsius, which is somewhat warmer than Laoag’s 24 to 32 degrees and Legazpi’s 26 to 31 degrees.

For Visayas and Mindanao, Iloilo and Cebu would experience temperatures of 25 to 33 degrees Celsius, while it may slightly be hotter in Davao and Zamboanga, with both areas registering 25 to 34 degrees.

No gale warning has been raised as of now, with sea conditions on the country’s eastern coastlines being moderate while the rest of the country’s seas would be slight to moderate. [ac]
